Winter Park, FL - Local lacrosse professional and Team USA player Joe Walters was proud to announce the completion of JW1 Lacrosse’s first Showcase Camp held this past weekend in Winter Park, Florida. The event showcased over 200 players from Florida and Upstate NY. “We hosted over 20 College Coaches who spent the two days working with Youth and High School players,” said Walters, “one of JW1’s strengths is the lacrosse clinic format”. In addition to running players through College drills and a College practice setting there were scrimmages that allowed for in game coaching. The event was organized by ML8 Events who is also overseeing the JW1 Summer Camp this coming June in Pittsford, NY.
“Players received custom JW1 uniforms designed by Joe,” commented Chelsea Henderson, Director of Operations for ML8 Events, “while having the opportunity to be Coached by DI, DII and DIII Coaches. It is a very unique experience for the players – the Coaches worked them hard.” A number of schools from around the country were represented in Florida this weekend. “We had Head Coaches from Loyola, Mercer and LeMoyne along with Assistant Coaches from Notre Dame, Colgate, U Albany, Tufts, Lehigh, Towson, Bucknell, High Point, Jacksonville, Lynn, Holy Cross, U Tampa, Hartford, Albion and Rollins,” added Henderson, “A highlight of the event for parents was guest speaker Bobby Wynne, Assistant Headmaster and Director of College Advising at the Salisbury School who addressed NCAA academic requirements.” Locally based club program, Sweetlax Lacrosse partnered with JW1 Lacrosse and had many of their players from the Rochester and Florida teams attend. “We were happy to see Upstate players come down for the weekend event” said Tommy Costanza, Sweetlax Club Director, “a number of our kids have been coached by Joe Walters over the years. The Coaching they received this weekend was great and we are looking forward to seeing what they learned this weekend and applying it to their game, hoping to see continued growth from a lot of our players. This weekend was a great coaching up experience for players of all skill levels.”
JW1 Lacrosse is continuing their partnership with ML8 Events with Summer Camps, Clinics and Town tournaments. The brand focus is the importance of keeping a stick in the players’ hands year-round. “You can’t finish practice, put gear back in your bag until your next practice and expect to be good”, Walters tells players, “It’s what you do in your personal time that makes you great”. In the last few years Section 5 has seen a spike in College commits, a trend that Walters and Costanza see growing. Additional events will be posted on JW1’s website, registration is open to all players, www.jw1lacrosse.com .
