Sweetlax Lacrosse is thrilled to announce they will be hosting the Future Stars Combine for players in divisions 2022 and 2023. The event will take place June 22nd in Pittsford, NY. Coinciding with their 5th Annual Showcase event, Sweetlax decided to host an event for the younger players to participate in.
“We wanted our Invitational participants that are not yet being recruiting to still have an aspect of training involved with the weekend,” says Kevin Martin, Sweetlax Founder and Director of Recruiting. “Exposing players to college coaches at a young age is important to their success as they begin to attend Showcase events.”
Players will receive direct instruction from Princeton University Head Coach Matt Madalon in addition to a top coach at University of Maryland. In addition, players will have the opportunity to train with additional college coaches and professional athletes. By design, the better than 10:1 player to Coach ratio will allow for intimate skill instruction.
The Combine event will focus on developing your players stick work and positional skills, consisting of 75% teaching drills and 25% gameplay. Players will train separated by position, with coaches working on individual skills and techniques. The overall skill development progression from individual stickwork, to then applying learned techniques into a scrimmage format will build your player’s lacrosse IQ.
Parents will have the opportunity to attend college sessions lead by the Salisbury School’s Assistant Headmaster and Head of College Advisement Bobby Wynne. Coach Wynne will help direct parents about NCAA requirements, SAT/ACT prep, the recruiting process and the right fit college for their son. Parents attending this Q and A session with Coach Wynne will leave with invaluable insight on what to expect for their sons recruiting future. In addition, we will give parents the opportunity to attend a Q and A session with college coaches. Last year’s Showcase event featured University of Maryland’s assistant coach JL Reppert, Notre Dame’s Assistant Coach Matt Karweck and Binghamton University's Head Coach Kevin McKeown. Coaches will be able to speak on a day in the life of a college athlete in addition to what they look for in a player during recruitment.
“We have found success in events by exposing these players in an intimate training environment with fully engaged College Coaches,” says Jessica Pacitto, ML8 Event Coordinator. “Being able to add a training experience for these youth players will help create an overall lacrosse festival weekend for them."
